PBX Today: It’s Not Ernestine Anymore

This article is going to reveal my age!  Do you remember “Laugh-In,” the comedy sketch show from the early 70s? I do. I loved Ernestine, the officious, wisecracking switchboard operator Lily Tomlin created for the series. After nasally intoning, “one ringy dingy, two ringy dingy,” Ernestine would connect with her unlucky caller. She was the world’s worst customer service agent, and her bad behavior was fully endorsed by her employer, the omnipotent phone company.

Fast-forward to a world that would leave Ernestine feeling more than a little ‘ringy dingy’ herself. Options in telecommunications are breathtakingly broad. Choosing the right phone system for your enterprise can be a daunting task.

PBX, or private branch exchange, is a customizable solution for business phone systems. Many PBX providers can provide an extensive array of tools that can be recruited together or individually to support the needs of organizations ranging in size up to the tens of thousands.

What Can PBX Do for Your Business?

Auto attendant with interactive voice response (IVR) enables you to make the most of your first impression with your initial greeting, and get your caller to the right agent with speed and intelligence.

Unified messaging recognizes that today, communication is a multichannel endeavor.  Email, voicemail, fax, video messaging…you need the ability to access and respond to many forms of communication via one interface.
